Ideas....

I have been following ted.com for a while now and I find many of the talks fascinating if not inspiring...I recently saw this talk by Steven Johnson on where good ideas come from - it's the first first Ted talk that prompted me to write...He mentioned that coffee houses are places were ideas have sex :D - an expression I loved because it explained something so potent, in such a simple way - yet it cannot be expressed more precisely....

But no that's not what this post is about, it is about this infant incubator in Africa which is designed from locally available car parts - because the expensive sophisticated machinery that is imported cannot be serviced if broken and then the whole point is lost....For those interested, here's the link to the talk and the incubator design..

Ideas like these rock not because they are new, not because they're creative, not because they're cool....but because they simplified a complexity that never existed in the first place. People thought incubators were complex, but in effect it was not - it was just a collection of simple machinery connected intelligently...Thinking about it - how much of the technological adavncement that happens, ever reaches whosoever its meant to reach....most of it gets lost in the sophistication, in the perceived complexity.... I wish we did more of this and reached out to more and more and more people...
