For this year's ISB applicant..

If u are a seriously considering ISB for next year, here is some info for u:
  • The deadlines have been preponed by a month this year. The deadline is on Oct 3 for the first cycle - so start NOW if you are serious
  • The fees might look staggering initially, but condsidering the facilities that are available and the quality of education received, it is worth it. Loans are availed quite easily and there are about hundred ISB scholarships.
  • The no. of seats is going to remain the same at 425 and we are expecting a few thousand applications this year.
  • ISB Info sessions are coming to metros and some other cities - Please attend them, it could be of great help! If u can drop by the campus that is even better.
  • As much as your GMAT score, please pay equal, if not more attention to ur essays. All the blemishes in your career can be justified and made beautiful by your essays. Your essays can make or break your application. Please dont make up stuff, rather write down -to- earth essays that are beleivable.
  • When making ur decision please dont start comparing ISB with IIMs, American & European Business schools. Each is good in their own league and it is not fair to say " The plum vendors are cheating us, look how much bigger & cheaper the pineapples are!!" - I hope u get the drift!

Those are just my tips. If u have specific questions, feel free to email me or leave a comment. And before I finish, my sales pitch for ISB - "It is an awesome place to be in and there is a 95% probability that you wont regret your decision"(Well done wundergal, spoken like a true MBA student)

GOOD LUCK! Have fun apping!

Wundergal, what are the essays one has to write?

Wundergal said...

SR-
Usually u have to write 4-5 essays. Create an online applicaiton account at

http://www.isb.edu/PGPApp/User/Default.aspx

Then you will be able to access the exact headings once u log on!

hi,
is it better to apply in the first admission cycle or the second one??

Wundergal said...

The second round is supposed to get higher volume of applications + by applying in the frist round givesu more time to pack up from ur job and relax before u get here..otherwise both rounds are same. So it is just a matter of choice.
My adivce: if ur application is not ready dont rush it and send a sloppy one just to make it for the 1st deadline. But if everything is ready then send it ASAP.

hi thanks for responding. my applicaton would be ready except for the gmat score which i m taking in mid-sept. deadline is oct 3. are an equal number of candidates selected in each cycle or is the probability of getting selected higher in the first one?

Wundergal said...

the numbers chosen are equal between the rounds - however probabilty might be higher n 1st round if as usual we get a higher volume of apps in 2nd round.

hi thanks. will aim for the first round.

hi how much time did u study for the gmat?

Wundergal said...

err.. I m the wrong person to ask! I prepped for a month and half and got 730. But, I was 7 months pregnant when I gave my GMAT + I had prev experience with GRE so dont go by my numbers.
I think a decent prep would be 2 months if that is wat u wanted to know.

Hey, I m back with another query. For the two evaluations, who do you think would be better. One the immediate boss ofcourse. For the second one, is an ex-senior colleague alright? or is it more feasible to get somebody senior from outside yur organisation who u've interacted with professionally? yet another option is college professor but i completed college 6 yrs back, so m not sure if it wud still be relevant. thanks. :)

I have one query. How important are the recos? For example one's current employer may be unhappy ( even hostile) that one is leaving the organization and may not be willing to give a reco.(It happens sometimes). You then go back to ex-employers with whom you worked years ago or even college profs under whom you studied a decade ago.Share your thoughts please.

the answer abt the recos is a lil detailed. Can both of send me ur queries at sow.sam@gmail.com so that I can give a more detailed answer. And it is exam season at ISB - so will attend to ur query on Tuesday. Hope that helps...All of u with queries please send me an email...it is much easier for me!
